A Day on the Yard: HBCU Appreciation Day

While Historically Black Colleges and Universities have provided African American students with a platform to explore their collective identities and cultures, we take time to celebrate and educate our community on their importance. Through live performances, public speakers, and informational tables from institutions across North Carolina, we showcase the reasoning behind the prideful depth that each student is naturally instilled with.

Alzheimer's Awareness

As the sixth leading cause of death within the United States, African Americans are twice as likely to acquire Alzheimer's. As we partner with other organizations to raise money and awareness, we emphasize the importance of knowing what Alzheimer's is and how we can help fight to find a cure.

Community Exposure

As we continuously expand the pallet of our young men's experiences, we understand that exposing them to different avenues of life will only strengthen their confidence for them to tackle the impossible. Providing education through guided tours of local schools and historical landmarks, like NC A&T State University, provide a solid example of how obtainable goals can be.

T-Shirts for Tots

T-Shirts for Tots is a way we give back to those who may be underprivileged or less fortunate during the holiday season. The Village along with other organizations come together to design shirts with inspirational messages and artistic expressions for ill youth to encourage them and remind them of the priceless value they are to our world.

OUR KEY STRATEGIES

Scholarship Series

Under our recently launched Because of My Village Campaign, this scholarship series competition is geared towards high-school, minority male seniors who are attending a two or four-year college/university in the Fall 2018.

Weekly Workshops

To properly invest each of our objectives into our little brothers, our organization visits each adopted school once a week to implement programs that aims to help each student develop mentally, socially, and professionally.

Literacy Initiative(s)

As we create more opportunities for community involvement in our area, we are challenging others to do the same. Our lunch and literacy initiatives will empower elementary school students to invest in reading books, while working to create an original children’s book through our Because of My Village DocuSeries.

Brotherly Relations

While we love to educate and enlighten our little brothers on their growth and personal development, we also like to provide them with snacks during their after-school participation and reward them with fun and exciting activities to engage in outside of school with their big brothers.
